Kiwi jewellery label Zoe & Morgan looks to the ocean for its new collection.
As if its creators have spent the summer wandering shorelines looking for natural treasures, the range, called Song of the Sea, includes delicate recreations of familiar shells in pendant, earring, bracelet and ring form.
It’s not far from the truth acknowledges designer Morgan Sibbald.
“I often see people at the beach walking along, hawk-like eyes fixed on the sand – from small children to older generations. The joy of finding a special shell is something that transcends borders and cultures.”
The collection acknowledges that these forms are not only a miracle of nature, but items that hold significance for many cultures. From their use as currency in Ancient Egypt to their role in spiritual rituals throughout Asia and the Pacific, and even the way we still hold a conch shell to the ear, its whisper often described as the ‘voice of the ocean’.
Recreating these forms as precious adornment mimics just one of the ways these natural items have been used for centuries.
In some pieces shell forms are given further detailing with the addition of White Topaz, Rhodolite Garnet, Smokey Quartz and Freshwater Pearl.
Perfect for lovers of coastline exploration and those always keen to sink their toes in the sand, the 23-piece collection is available now.
