It comes after a national cabinet meeting in which the prime minister and state and territory leaders agreed to a framework to achieve a “COVID-safe economy and society”.
“It is our goal to move through all of these steps to achieve that COVID-safe economy in July of this year,” Morrison said.
Here’s what each step will involve:
Stage 1
- Up to five visitors allowed in your home
- Gatherings of up to 10 people allowed outside of home
- Working from home encouraged if it works for you and your employer
- Libraries, community centres, playgrounds and boot camps open
- Retail, small cafes and restaurants open
- Local and regional travel allowed
- Funerals of up to 30 people outdoors allowed
- Weddings of up to 10 people outdoors allowed
Stage 2
- Gatherings of up to 20 people allowed inside and outside of home
- Working from home encouraged if it works for you and your employer
- Gyms, beauty therapists, cinemas, theatres, amusement parks, galleries, and museums can open
- Caravan and camping grounds can open
- States and territories may allow larger numbers in some circumstances
- Some interstate travel allowed
Stage 3
- Gatherings of up to 100 people allowed
- Return to the workplace
- Trans-tasman, Pacific Island and international student travel to be considered
- Food courts, saunas and nightclubs can open with gatherings of up to 100 people.
- States and territories may allow larger numbers in some circumstances
- All interstate travel allowed
