So which ones went through with it?
Rosie O’Donnell, who has a long history of trading barbs with Trump, is the latest high-profile person to leave the country because of the president.
The comedian and actress moved to Ireland in January with her 12-year-old child Clay. She is pursuing Irish citizenship through her grandparents.
In a post to TikTok, O’Donnell said her relocation was to protect her family’s wellbeing amid the US political climate.
“When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she said.
“It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well.”

These celebrities have left the United States recently for political reasons, Trump or otherwise:
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
Television host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, were photographed in the Cotswolds, England, following the election, and it was widely reported the couple had relocated there due to Trump’s win.
The couple reportedly sought a more stable and accepting environment, distancing themselves from the political turmoil in the United States.

America Ferrera
Actress America Ferrera is reportedly considering a move to the United Kingdom, with a source telling Hello magazine she was spotted checking out schools for her children in southwest London.
Laverne Cox
The actress and transgender advocate has expressed concerns about the implications of Trump’s policies on the LGBTQ+ community.
Immediately following the election, Cox told Variety that she and several trans friends were “doing research on different cities in Europe and in the Caribbean” to relocate to.
“I don’t want to be in too much fear, but I’m scared,” she said. “As a public figure, with all my privilege, I’m scared, and I’m particularly scared because I’m a public figure. I feel like I could be targeted. I think they spent close to $100 million on anti-trans ads. It’s deeply concerning.”

Eva Longoria
Actress Eva Longoria has spent most of her time outside Hollywood for years, and now splits her time between Spain and Mexico.
While her list of grievances with LA pre-date Trump, in the wake of the election she told Marie Claire “if he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place”.
“I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky,” she told the magazine. “They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Sophie Turner
Turner may have moved back to the UK before Trump was re-elected, but she has expressed that disillusionment with the political and social issues in the United States were partly to blame.
“The gun violence, Roe v. Wade being overturned…Everything just kind of piled on. After the Uvalde [school] shooting, I knew it was time to get the f*** out of there,” Turner told Harper’s Bazaar.
Minnie Driver
Minnie Driver relocated to London in 2024, after living in LA for 27 years. She told The Times she couldn’t return to the US if Donald Trump was re-elected.
“If I lived in a red [Republican] state, no, I couldn’t,” she said. “But living in California, you are somewhat insulated. But do you want to go and live in a bubble? Do you run away from the fire or do you go back and help?”
