The time is right to make our pouts bright.
That’s according to lipstick creator Karen Murrell.
The Kiwi that has lead the way for clean beauty in New Zealand since establishing her popular natural lipstick line in 2008, says now that masks are off for most people, we want to celebrate.
As a result, this will be the summer that bright lips make a return, predicts Murrell.
“What we’re going to see is women the world over embracing a type of ‘revenge lip’” she explains. “After wearing masks and seeing an increase in eye makeup trends as a result over the last two years, as with anything there will be a shift in the swing of the pendulum so to speak, and we’re going to see bright, bold lip colour on parade as a result”.
In particular, Karen is predicting a summer in all hues of pink.

“Berries, brights, bolds – think pink in every shade possible! With the focus on eyes over the last couple of years, we’ve seen nude lipsticks taking center stage to compliment a heavy eye makeup look.”
“Eye looks have been paired back in recent months to a subtle flick of liquid liner and lips are making a comeback with women choosing to overline just outside of their lip line and fill in the lip with sumptuous, statement colour.”
Murrell says she herself is enjoying embracing bright pinks right now, in particular a colour from her collection of natural lipsticks called Poppy Passion, a vibrant poppy-flower inspired pink with hints of coral.
“It is bringing me much happiness even getting the canister out of my handbag and looking at the beautiful pigment, she says.
It’s a trend that’s happening internationally and even on red carpets too. A highlight of the recent Emmy Awards beauty looks was actress Amanda Seyfried wearing a raspberry pink lip to complement her Armani Privé gown.
