Reports say there are several victims of the shooting at Austin-East High School in Knoxville. One person has been killed, local news reports.
“Multiple gunshot victims reported, including a KPD officer. The investigation remains active at this time,” the police announced on Twitter.
Knoxville schools superintendent Bob Thomas said information is still coming in about the “tragic situation”.
One person has been detained in connection with the shooting, Knoxville News-Sentinel has reported.
“The school building has been secured and students who were not involved in the incident have been released to their families,” he said on Twitter.
According to local news, the high school is currently under “hard lockdown” and parents are being told to head to the back of the campus to meet their children.
