After years of rumours, it’s really true. A ‘Devil Wears Prada’ sequel is well on its way.
Here’s what we know so far.
The teaser trailer has been released
It doesn’t reveal much, but we’re thrilled to see Miranda (Meryl Streep) and Andy (Anne Hathaway) share screen time once more as their iconic characters.
The original 2006 film (based on a 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger) followed aspiring journalist Andy Sachs who lands a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the powerful and demanding editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine called ‘Runway’.
Andy struggles to keep up with Miranda’s impossible standards through a number of ups and downs, bemoaning the challenges alongside co-worker Nigel (Stanley Tucci) and Priestly’s first assistant Emily (Emily Blunt).
Priestly has been widely perceived to be inspired by Anna Wintour, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue. In a surprising turn of events, in September Wintour was seen embracing Streep while she was in character as Priestly attending the recent Milan Fashion Week. A number of the cast were seen filming scenes for the new Devil Wears Prada film at the Dolce & Gabbana fashion show.
While at the end of the original film (spoiler alert1), Hathaway’s character Sachs quit Runway for a major New York City newspaper, the new teaser sees Miranda and Andy step into an elevator together at Runway’s offices, teasing a possible collaboration between the two in the new film.
A star-studded cast
The original 2006 cast included Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci and in fantastic news, each of these Hollywood heavyweights is returning for the sequel, though we don’t know to what extent.
Reports have shared Kenneth Branagh will be joining the cast as Priestly’s new husband.
The film will also feature Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom and Lucy Liu and reported cameos from Donatella Versace, Lady Gaga and Sydney Sweeney.
The one person who it is confirmed won’t be back is Andrea’s boyfriend Nate, played by Entourage star Adrian Grenier.
Sequel to be released next year
Fans have waited 20 long years, and we now have a release date for the new film.
Multiple outlets are reporting The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set for a May 1, 2026 release date.
Plot to explore a changing media landscape
In 2022, Hathaway told The View that she didn’t think a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada was possible due to changes in how media is consumed.
“Now everything’s gone so digital and that movie is centred around the concept of producing a physical thing and it’s just, it’s just very different.”
But the writers may be using that shift to their advantage, with outlets reporting the sequel will follow Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly as she navigates a decline in print media.
Additionally, Variety reports that Blunt’s character Emily will return as a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly is chasing.
Weisberger did write a sequel to her original novel, 2013’s Revenge Wears Prada, but it’s not been reported how closely the storyline will resemble it, if at all.

Original screenwriter and director to return
Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted Lauren Weisberger’s novel into the original film’s screenplay, will be scripting the sequel, while the original film’s director, David Frankel, and producer, Wendy Finerman, are also back on board for the new film.
