Quick, sheer foundations you can apply with your fingers

Want a quick skin pick-me-up you can apply with your fingers?

With the advent of working from home and more casual social get-togethers when we do meet up with friends, demand has boomed for makeup that’s easy and low-key, and crucially, takes only a few seconds to apply.

Beauty brands have well and truly come to the (non-existent, COVID-compliant) party with sheer foundations and tinted moisturisers that can be applied in the five minutes warning you often get that a Zoom call is imminent, or your friend is popping by.

That or the fact you’d rather get outside and enjoy the fresh air on a weekend morning than labour over a finely-tuned makeup routine.

Fresh, radiant skin looks more modern anyway, and these new foundation alternatives deliver in a big way. They each give a touch of coverage that can be smoothed on evenly with fingers, a sponge or a brush, many have beneficial skincare ingredients that improve the condition of your skin while you’re wearing them and one even has crucial SPF included, key whether you’re spending time outdoors or even working inside.

Huda Beauty GloWish Multi Dew Skin Tint, $64

If you are a fan of GLOW all of your wishes will have come true when you try Huda’s new skin tint! It works well mixed in to a more full coverage option too.

Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40, $81

How to Make Your Own Lip Scrub at Home

A lip scrub will help keep your lips smooth and hydrated. Here’s how to make one at home.

The change in seasons can often wreak havoc on our skin and our lips are no exception. As autumn and winter arrive and the air humidity drops and we crank our air conditioning and indoor heating, our skin – and our lips in particular – can become a little dehydrated.

While a great lip balm will help, adding a lip scrub to your routine will help you slough away dry skin leaving lips smooth and kissable.

Although various beauty brands make lip scrubs, they’re incredibly easy to make a home. Kourtney Kardashian is a self-confessed DIY lip scrub aficionado and has shared her go-to recipe on her own website POOSH and with Vogue.

Creating Kourtney’s must-have lip scrub is easy and only takes a few pantry staples. Just mix equal parts honey, coconut oil – best at room temperature – and organic raw sugar.  “I just keep these products in my bathroom so that I can make them anytime,” Kourtney told Vogue.

To make an all-natural DIY lip scrub you need:

  • 1 teaspoon of Manuka honey
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut oil at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon of raw sugar

Combine all the ingredients together and your lip scrub is good to go. If you prefer a lighter scrub, you can experiment with the amount of sugar you use. You can store the scrub for up to two weeks in an air-tight container.

To use, take a small amount on your ring finger and gently massage across your bottom lip and then the top. with the residue press and rub your lips together. As it’s all natural, don’t worry if some gets in your mouth, but you can wipe the sugar residue away with a soft muslin or face cloth if you prefer.

Not keen to DIY? Here are three of the best options available to purchase:

MAC Lip Scrubtious, $36; Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Smoothing Sugar Scrub, $60; Frank Body Cherry Bomb Lip Scrub, $16
