The state-of-the-art facility is changing what a gym or wellness facility looks like.

Whether you’re an All Black or play a casual game of footy on occasion, new Queenstown fitness and wellness facility The Mill is hoping you’ll pop in for a workout.

The new integrated gym, recovery and healthcare facility has just opened Remarkables Park’s Tulip Lane in the Alpine Town. Said to be the country’s largest privately owned gym, The Mill is open to casual visitors – a boon for fitness-focused travellers – as well as memberships for locals.

At heart of the space is a 1,200m2 gym floor with the latest equipment and cardio machines

The development brings together traditional gym equipment with a modern approach, offering workout facilities but also other health and recovery treatments. The idea is a well-rounded approach to fitness performance, giving both elite athletes and the general public access to the latest facilities and expertise.

There’s an extensive gym, but members can also access saunas, cold plunge pools, and pneumatic compression therapy. Advanced technologies such as cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are also available as are healthcare services such as a musculoskeletal specialist doctor, physio, massage, podiatrist and more.

A sauna is part of the treatment and recovery offering.

“The Mill represents a long-held vision to redefine how we approach health, performance, and recovery in New Zealand,” says founder and owner Peter Forch. “This isn’t just a gym or clinic, it’s a scalable model for human-centred health innovation that puts prevention and performance on equal footing.”

The slick new space was designed by local architects Warren and Mahoney and encompasses a 1,200m2 gym floor, 25m indoor turf track, a 40m outdoor sprint track, dedicated group training areas including a group cycle studio and private consultation and treatment rooms.

Backed by by tech entrepreneur Rod Drury, the new space hopes to attract pro athletes and teams for off-season training, but also deliver a top quality offering for active locals.

“After Covid there was a lot of thought put into Queenstown diversification,” says Drury. “A world class high performance sports training and recovery facility that would attract athletes and teams to Queenstown was ambitious, but now it’s complete, we’ve created a special space our community will be very proud of.”

The Mill is at 5 Tulip Lane, Remarkable Park, Queenstown.
