2-year-old Bentley Boyers who has a cleft lip was overcome with joy when he met a puppy with a cleft lip as well.
Young Bentley’s father, Brandon Boyers was visiting the Jackson County Animal Shelter to look at chickens when he spotted the 2-month-old puppy with a cleft lip. He knew straight away he had to bring the puppy home for his young son.
“When Bentley came in to meet the puppy, we had tears in our eyes,” said animal services director of Jackson County Animal Shelter, Lydia Sattler. “He was loving her and she was just eating it up. They were a perfect match for many reasons.”
Bentley was born with the cleft lip, which meant he struggled with eating when he was a newborn and has undergone several surgeries to correct the birth defect.
“To see him have something in common with a puppy means a lot because he can grow up and understand that he and his puppy both have something that they can share in common,” said his mother, Ashley Boyers.
Bentley named the puppy Lacey and according to his parents, the pair have been inseparable since they met.
