Production has been halted on the set of the movie Rust after the film’s cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by a prop weapon fired by the film’s star Alec Baldwin.
A statement from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Baldwin fired the prop weapon that killed 42-year-old Hutchins and injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.
Hutchins was rushed to hospital but died of her injuries. Souza was taken to hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries, confirmed the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office.
Baldwin has not been charged was reportedly seen outside the sheriff’s office in tears, though has not commented on the incident.
“According to investigators, it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged,” the sheriff’s statement read. “Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”
