Charlene, Princess of Monaco has opened up about her “long and difficult” recovery from several health issues.

Back in May 2021, the royal experienced medical complications from a previous ENT surgery while visiting South Africa and stayed in the country to receive additional treatment.

Charlene returned to Monaco in November, but experienced ill health again and opted to travel to a clinic in Switzerland.

However, in a rare interview with Nice-Matin, the 44-year-old indicated she is beginning to feel better.

“When I returned to the Principality, I focused all my energy on my children, my husband and my health because they are my priority. My state of health is still fragile and I don’t want to go too fast. The road has been long, difficult and so painful. Today I feel calmer,” she said.

“I am very happy to be back home in Monaco and with my family. I received so many positive and warm messages when I was away from Monaco and I thank them for their support.”

Charlene stepped out with her seven-year-old daughter Princess Gabriella at a fashion event on Tuesday night.

The former professional swimmer wed Albert II, Prince of Monaco in 2011. The couple also have son Jacques, Gabriella’s twin brother.
