Prince William reportedly contracted COVID-19 in April

Citing Kensington Palace sources, UK media reported late on Sunday that the Duke of Cambridge was diagnosed with the coronavirus around the same time as his father Princes Charles.

The Sun newspaper, which first reported the story, said the diagnosis was kept a secret in order to not alarm the country.

The tabloid reported that William told an observer at an engagement, “There were important things going on and I didn’t want to worry anyone.”

The Sun said the Duke was treated by palace doctors and isolated at the family home Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

Despite the virus leaving him “struggling to breathe”, according to The Sun’s source, William managed to carry out 14 telephone and video call engagements during April.

“After seeing medics and testing positive – which was obviously quite a shock given how fit and healthy he is – William was determined it should be business as usual though,” the source said.

“He was determined to fulfil his engagements.”

Kensington Palace has not commented officially.
