In a brief statement, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said on Thursday, “The Duke of Edinburgh yesterday underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

The palace added that they would not be providing any more details at this time.

The Queen’s husband had been transferred to St. Bartholomew’s in London after spending almost two weeks at King Edward VII Hospital, also in the capital.

The 99-year-old was hospitalised last month and was then moved to St. Bartholomew’s where he underwent testing for an infection and observation for a “pre-existing heart condition”.

Various royals, including Philip’s youngest son Prince Edward and grandson Prince William, have shared updates in recent days, suggesting all is mostly well, and on Wednesday, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, his eldest son Charles’ wife, revealed the Duke of Edinburgh is “slightly improving” but “hurts at moments”.
