Buckingham Palace has confirmed the Prince is in hospital

Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth will spend a second night in King Edward VII Hospital after having been admitted on Tuesday for an infection. The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted as a precautionary measure for treatment arising from a pre-existing condition.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Prince remains in “good spirits”, and his son, Prince Charles told reporters that “He’s getting better.”

The Prince’s illness has meant that he missed attending the Royal Ascot race, and also the official state opening of parliament on Wednesday.

The 96 year old Prince announced that he would be stepping down from active public life in May this year, with rumours that he had actually passed away sending social media into a frenzy.
