Prince Harry will join his family members at the King’s Coronation service in London on 6 May, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. However, his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex will not be in attendance.
“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” the Buckingham Palace statement read.
“The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
The couple’s charitable foundation Archewell also confirmed the news in a statement.
There has been much speculation as to weather Harry would attend his father’s Coronation since the couple had delayed the RSVP to the event that was due on 3 April.
Omid Scobie, co-author of the Sussex’s biography Finding Freedom, tweeted that the their son Archie’s birthday, which falls on the same date as the King’s Coronation, “played a factor” in the couple’s decision.
“Expect it to be a fairly quick trip to the UK for Prince Harry, who will only be attending the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.”
King Charles is due to be crowned alongside his wife the Queen Consort on at Westminster Abbey in a grand ceremony that follows the a long-standing British royal tradition.
