Prince Harry and Michelle Obama Unite for Youth
The Prince and former First Lady visited a public school in Chicago to empower students.

Prince Harry and Michelle Obama surprised students at Hyde Park Academy in Chicago to talk about the future Obama Presidential Centre. The public school is in the South Side of Chicago, opposite the site where the Presidential Centre will be built.

Michelle’s former communications director, Caroline Adler Morales, explained why the Prince and former First Lady had visited the school. “The warm and wide-ranging conversation, lasting over an hour, covered how the Obama Presidential Center will showcase the South Side of Chicago for a global audience, the importance of young people staying inspired and hopeful, and the transformative power of students using their voices to change the world,” a statement provided to ABC News reads.

Prince Harry later joined Michelle and former President Barack Obama at the Inaugural Summit of the Obama Foundation. The Prince spoke about his understanding of public service. “What happened to my mother put me a step back,” Harry said. “How could someone like her, who did so much … be treated that way?”

He also used the time to encourage young people to raise the dialogue around mental health.

Michelle Obama thanked Prince Harry on Twitter, saying “Thanks to my friend Prince Harry for joining me in my hometown to surprise these outstanding students!”
