The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle travelled to Auckland’s North Shore on Tuesday to dedicate a 20-hectare area of native bush to the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy. The parents-to-be also received the cutest baby gift.
It’s day three of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s New Zealand tour, and today they’re in Auckland with a jam-packed schedule.
On Tuesday morning they kicked things off with some ‘welly wanging’ at North Shore Riding Club and planted a tree for the Commonwealth Canopy.
Auckland’s springtime weather didn’t disappoint either, as the rain came down as the Royals gave their speeches.
Prince Harry said both he and his wife were delighted to be at the opening of the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy and that the rain was a blessing.
“The sooner we fully appreciate our surroundings and how interconnected we all are the better,” he said.
The royal couple then participated in a gumboot throwing contest and meet representatives of the Pillars charity.
The Duke and Duchess were given some adorable presents for the newest arrival to the Royal Family, Baby Sussex.
The cute offerings included a pair of green wellies (toddler size) decorated with kiwis and a baby shawl from New Zealand wool.
The Royal newlyweds were also given a green-stone necklace each, which they both wore with a smile.
They are scheduled to attend a reception hosted by the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, at the Auckland War Museum.
But the most prominent event will be a walkabout at roughly 4pm local time.
