The Duke of Cornwall has tested positive for coronavirus while in Scotland.

The Prince of Wales has tested positive for COVID-19. The news comes following an announcement from Clarence House.

According to a spokesman Prince Charles, 71, is displaying mild symptoms of the virus “but otherwise remains in good health.” The Duchess of Cornwall, 72, has been tested for COVID-19 but does not have the virus. The pair are currently self-isolating at Balmoral in Scotland.

A statement released by Clarence House reads: “The tests were carried out by the NHS (National Health Service) in Aberdeenshire, where they met the criteria required for testing.

“It is not possible to ascertain from whom the prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”

After arriving in Scotland on Sunday with the duchess of Cornwall, Prince Charles reportedly had started to display symptoms over the weekend. He was then tested by the NHS in Aberdeenshire on Monday

The duke and duchess arrived in Scotland on Sunday. Charles had been displaying mild symptoms over the weekend and was tested by the NHS in Aberdeenshire on Monday.

Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, last saw his mother, the Queen, on 12 March according to Buckingham Palace. The Duke of Edinburgh, 98, had not been present at the meeting. While Charles was reportedly well at the meeting, the Queen, 93, and Prince Philip are continuing to self-isolate at Windsor Castle.

The news comes after a report that a staff member of Buckingham Palace tested positive for the coronavirus. Courtiers and palace staff are now working from home.

It is believed that Charles and Camilla will remain in Scotland for a few weeks now as he recovers from the virus.
