Prepare to be scared by ‘A Midnight Visit’

Prepare to be scared by ‘A Midnight Visit’

Immersive theatre experience, ‘A Midnight Visit’ is a cross between David Lynch, steam punk and ‘Stranger Things’.

Do you enjoy a bit of spookiness? Grab some similarly-inclined friends and get on down to the Newtown in Sydney during the month of October to experience what’s being billed as “a journey to the edge of madness”.

‘A Midnight Visit’ takes place in a converted inner-city warehouse and comprises more than 30 rooms set over two floors. It’s loosely based on the works of American writer and master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe and features adult concepts, uneven floor surfaces, small spaces and plenty of frights.

Described as a “choose your own adventure experience”, ‘A Midnight Visit’ is definitely not for the faint-hearted. Director and co-creator, Danielle Harvey, who is also festival director of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas, says, “The experience explores themes of madness, guilt, death, impermanence and memory. It’s sometimes funny, sometimes sexy, sometimes wistful, and yes, sometimes a bit scary!”

Her fellow creative producer, Simon Hayward adds, “We thought Sydney deserves something really special, unlike anything the city has seen before, taking audiences on a truly captivating journey which uses local spaces in new and pioneering ways. We’ve let our imaginations go wild.”

When? 3 October to 9 December, 2018 (previews from 19 September).

Where? A Midnight Visit, 655 King St, Newtown NSW.
