Poem: Weightless Summer

By Shannon Steven

Poem: Weightless Summer

experience
past/present/future
on this crisp apple
summer morning like
salt and vinegar chips
has/are/will jellyfish sting
my tongue toe-deep
in salt-wet sand like a
gift from the pacific
ocean-deep in your
arms like worn
cotton teeshirt
unravelling at the
family barbeque
over melted
ice cream breakfast
sandwiches on road trips
ignored in favour
of tan-lined thigh
to sweaty knee
stuck to leather
car seat listening
for my/your/our
favourite song for
the first time yesterday this
will/is/has always been the one
that reminds you
of this summer right
now while you
drive back home
tomorrow evening
