Suspended, a life
Lived, but not of it
At a stand still
While others go out, come home,
Make money, spend time,
Trip into love and drift out of it.
A kaleidoscope goes on around me, without me.
I miss
Beaches and traffic, grassy parks and
Pillars of buildings
A moving city filled with ambitions
A son’s first tremulous day of school,
A daughter’s party fueled by laughter and cake.
I ache for mundanity, taken away.
But in the stillness, also
Solace.
In painting, in laughter,
Carolling magpies, softly fresh sheets
The sharpness of coffee and the golden glow of a candle.
In the seed that I planted, with help
Growing green and tall,
Blooming bright and yellow
A sunflower to light up my way.
