Pinterest has released its list of rising trends predicted to take off in 2020.
By tracking user behaviour, the image-sharing site is able to forecast the next big crazes.
The so-called ‘Pinterest 100’ is broken down into the following 10 categories:
Beyond binary
Pinterest notes a “more accepting view of gender identity is on the rise”, with people searching for gender-neutral options for both “everyday needs and milestone events”.
Conscious consumption
As people re-evaluate their impact on the environment, Pinterest has identified a shift towards more eco-friendly habits.
Finding balance
The term “wellness” is changing to include easy methods of tackling anxiety, stress and burnout.
Home hub
Pinterest says new technology and flexible office policies mean we are spending more and more time at home, leading to the growth of home décor, athleisure and delivery service industries.
Internationally inspired.
Travellers are trading in trips to common tourist spots for “meaningful activities like cooking classes and artisan visits”, and then trying to recreate these experiences once at home.
Pampered pets
Pet pampering is said to be reaching all-time highs, with “more human-like habits” expected to come over to the pet world.
Responsible travel
Tourism is another industry reaching “an eco-conscious crossroad”, with travellers starting to closely monitor their environmental impact.
Re-wilding
Returning to nature is the “perfect antidote to digital fatigue, artificial lighting and sitting culture”.
Space everything
Pinterest recognises a “new kind of space race” as companies prepare for potential 2020 launch dates for solar system exploration.
90s rerun
1990s references are making a comeback “from high-fashion runways to retro devices” in what’s described as “a nostalgic rewind to a more light-hearted era”.
