5 gifts that give back.

Christmas isn’t always a merry time for everyone, with money issues and stress causing grief and anxiety. There are ways to give back over the festive season, with various businesses and organisations offering gifts that benefit individuals, the community and the environment. We’ve rounded up a few of our favourites this Christmas.

Ronald McDonald House Charities®

Ronald McDonald House Charities® has created a personalised Christmas e-book, The Night You Saved Christmas, where you become the hero who saves Christmas for a local family. The money raised from the ebook will go towards providing over 5,000 nights of accommodation for the 600-plus families who need to stay at a Ronald McDonald House® this festive season.

GiftBird is a New Zealand-based company that makes personally-curated gift boxes with quality items sourced from around the world. Inspired by native birds, GiftBird partnered with New Zealand organisation Forest & Bird to support the conservation of local birdlife. A donation is made to Forest & Bird for every gift box purchased, such as the gorgeous Dusk Essence box above.

Make Give Live

Make Give Live is a social enterprise brought together by groups of women who and knit and crochet hats, accessories, Christmas decorations and gift sets. These are sold at markets and on the group’s website or donated to homeless or elderly people. All profits from the Christmas Collection sales are used for resourcing the knitting groups and continuing to support the work Make Give Live does with those in need in the community. We love the Tea Gift Set, pictured above.

As New Zealand’s leading childcare charity, Barnardos strive to make the festive season as special as possible for children in need. By donating to Barnardos, you enable parents to choose gifts for their children that they cannot afford. This means you rest assured knowing that your gift will be loved and used. Add one more person to your gift list this year: donate to Barnardos to help a Kiwi kid who needs you and spread more joy this Christmas.
