Oroton inspires dreams of a European summer holiday with Resort collection at AAFW

Australian fashion label Oroton has returned to Afterpay Australian Fashion Week for a second year in a row following the brand’s debut at the event in 2021.

The Resort 2023 collection presentation bought to mind a relaxing summer escape in the sun – or a much longed for European getaway – with plenty of stylish separates and dresses in luxe fabrications with a relaxed ease.

Oroton took inspiration from nostalgia, be it staying close and going for a wander through the garden or dreaming of a vintage-inspired trip abroad. Expanding on the house’s legacy the  collection combines detailing including embroidery, hand stitching and charming motifs with sweeping silhouettes and leather accessories.

An antique ceramic tile, a memento from Portugal, was of particular inspiration for Oroton and a swathe of pretty, optimistic hues like grass green and marigold raised the spirits of attendees wrapped in winter outfits.

To compliment the collection, the Oroton beauty look from official beauty partner MECCA revolved around a youthful, dewy and healthy complexion with a touch of peachiness for a sun-kissed, faux-flush.

MECCA’s Lead Artist for the Oroton show, Janelle Jerusalem, described the beauty direction as being inspired by a feeling of escapism. The timeless, elegant look playing up a fresh-faced youthfulness.  “The way the cheeks naturally flush and the dewy warmth it evokes after some time in the sun,” the makeup artist explained of the look.

Predicting the beauty trends she picks to stick around following AAFW 22 she said; “There will be a continuation of celebrating the skin’s natural luminosity through products that double as a hybrid skincare-meets-makeup duo, like skin tints. Beauty looks will remain fresh, glowy and almost undone, but with a surprising element of colour. Whether it be on the cheeks like a peach-toned warm flush, or a just-kissed, bitten hint of a soft rosy plum on the lips.”

Jerusalem used MECCA products to create the look including Mecca Cosmetica Weekend Skin Glow Serum massaged into the skin to create a glowy base, Mecca Cosmetica Tinted Lip De-Luscious in Shell dabbed off so there is no sheen on the lips, just a flush of peach, and Smashbox Always On Cream Eye Shadow in the shade Sepia, applied on to the eyelid to enhance the eye’s natural depth.
