Opera Bar becomes Sydney’s Backyard this January
Live music, Connect Four by the harbour and a taste of an Aussie backyard experience await you this summer.

During the month of January, Australia’s best bar will transform into a harbour side backyard sanctuary, giving the people of Sydney all their favourite backyard classics in a setting that will make them feel right at home.

Celebrating the Sydney Opera House’s annual Summer at the House festivities, Opera Bar will be giving every guest a taste of an Aussie backyard summer experience, with the venue drenched in native plants, picnic dining tables, a layer of greenery, a timeless hills hoist and an Aussie barbecue sure to turn out the classics.

A tailored backyard food menu will offer barbecue bites, from classic corn on the cob, to a barbecue sausage sandwich and delicious prawn skewers. Opera Bar will also be serving up the iconic Australian James Squire beer, with One Fifty Lashes being celebrated as the backyard beer of choice.

A delicious and premium selection of cocktails will also be available throughout the month featuring such award winning tipples as Tasmanian Vodka 666 and Perth based gin, West Winds. These will be supplemented by a range of selections including traditional homemade lemonade and frosty fruit inspired slushies.

Keeping the local vibe alive and well, one of Australia’s foremost music companies, Modular People, is curating the entertainment with local and up & coming talent performing live – every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, as well as Sunday afternoon. Acts include Dustin Tebbutt, Elizabeth Rose, Shining Bird, Cosmo’s Midnight, DD Dumbo, Kilter, Softwar & Slow Blow, Jingle Jangle, Yo Grito, Bad Ezzy, Ariane and more.

What’s a backyard without games? Pair up to play one of the classics – Connect Four, and relive your childhood with this special life size version. As well, animal balloons and animal face painting for kids (between 1pm – 3pm Saturday) plus a changing roster of other games and surprises.
