One of Portugal’s best restaurants is popping up in Auckland for two nights only

One of Portugal’s best restaurants is popping up in Auckland for two nights only
Portugal and Philippines meet Aotearoa in this special pop-up dinner event.

A special chef collab is giving Aucklanders the chance to experience one of the best restaurants in Portugal.

Bar Magda, Auckland’s underground restaurant led by Filipino chef Carlo Buenaventura, has announced an exciting new chef pop-up happening this March. For two nights only on 11-12 March, Bar Magda will be hosting Portugal’s Restaurant Sem.

Led by locals George McLeod, Lara Espíruto Santo and Adam Lovell, Restaurant Sem has generated plenty of buzz since opening in 2021. It was recently awarded the Most Sustainable Urban Restaurant in Portugal by Mesa Marcada and ranks 27th in the list of the best restaurants in Portugal.

With a zero-waste approach, Sem will be bringing their regenerative style of Portuguese cooking to Tāmaki Makaurau, fused with Bar Magda’s vibrant Filipino flavours.

“Our philosophy is to serve delicious, interesting, cool and contemporary food with a positive impact,” explains McLeod.”We question everything. Nothing goes to waste and it always comes from regenerative farms or the wild.”

Chef Buenaventura says guests can expect local ingredients like oyster, wild hare and wild venison, presented in rich and complex flavours, with wine matchings from Portugal. “This is a great way to celebrate local talent making waves around the world.”

The dinner will features 4 sharing style courses. Priced at $115pp or $180pp including a drinks match. To book, visit barmagda.co.nz
