The designer, who launched his label in 2017, has announced he will be presenting a collection at London Fashion Week in September.
The high-profile move comes as the designer will also be taking part in the upcoming New Zealand Fashion Week, through the inclusion of a week long pop up installation at Britomart in Auckland.
The Kiwi label has become known for its creative silhouettes crafted from exceptional fabrics and unique textures and prints, an aesthetic the brand describes as ‘balancing the ‘practical with the poetic’.
The London showing follows a ‘transformative’ two years for the designer, who studied fashion design at Massey University in Wellington.
In 2023 the label had its New Zealand Fashion Week: Kahuria debut, where the designer’s distinctive aesthetic and refined storytelling caught the attention of audiences and industry alike. That momentum carried him through to Australian Fashion Week in 2024, where he gained further attention as a designer to watch.
Docherty also recently extended his design skills in a new direction, taking on the role of costume designer for the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s work Chrysalis, part of its Home, Land and Sea show, currently touring.
“I’m incredibly humbled to be showing at London Fashion Week,” Docherty says. “It’s been a powerful journey, beginning with NZFW: Kahuria, where I felt a deep sense of grounding and possibility. The support I’ve received from the New Zealand fashion industry has been instrumental at every step. I wouldn’t be here without that creative community, and I’m deeply grateful.”
