Not a Lot of Love for Meghan After All

Not a Lot of Love for Meghan After All
Despite the excitement surrounding Meghan Markle's new lifestyle series, public sentiment appears divided, with audiences showing little enthusiasm for the Duchess's latest venture.

Meghan Markle is set to debut her new Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” on January 15.

“We’re not in the pursuit of perfection, we’re in the pursuit of joy,” Markle says in a heartfelt moment during the trailer.

The show, in keeping with the brand she launched last year, American Riviera Orchard, will explore the Duchess’s passions for cooking, wellness, and connection.

However there is not a lot of love for the show… at all.

Netflix shared the trailer for the new series on YouTube on Jan 3. When publishing this story, over 1.2M people had watched the trailer. To put that into context, “The Night Agent” season two trailer has had 1.5M views in almost two weeks. So in five days, Markle is doing well. However the good news stops there.

Of the 1.2M views, the trailer has received only 14K likes and a whopping 127K thumbs down. So while Markle maybe hosting ‘with love’ the audience certainly isn’t loving her.

It’s not only the anonymous YouTube viewers dissatisfied by the trailer.

Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Republican senator John McCain, also criticised the trailer, calling it “out of touch” given the current challenges facing the US.

“There have been two terror attacks in two days, major wars raging and Americans can’t pay for groceries. We are a country in rage, uncertainty and intensity right now,” McCain wrote. “This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment.”

While Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams shared his thoughts in an interview with the Daily Mail, calling the trailer “a showcase of celebrity at its most superficial.”

“It’s unmistakably all about ‘me, me, me,'” he remarked.

With love Meghan

Thumbs down haven’t been the only setback for the new Netflix series.

Markle faced a hurdle when Instagram mistakenly restricted searches for #WithLoveMeghan, the title of her highly anticipated new lifestyle series.

Fortunately, the issue was resolved after backlash from her supporters, who noticed the hashtag had been blocked and flagged as “sensitive content.”

Reports later revealed that critics of the Duchess had inundated the hashtag with inappropriate posts, prompting Meta, Instagram’s parent company, to address the situation and issue a statement to clarify the misunderstanding.

“We blocked people’s ability to search for terms related to potential child safety risks. In this case, the search term #WithLoveMeghan was restricted in error and has now been corrected,” the company said.
