In a highly entertaining final, the Canadians threatened an even bigger surprise by reaching halftime with a 12-7 lead. However, the defending champions dominated the second half and were the clear winners of the match.
The United States had earlier won its first medal in any category of Rugby Sevens, beating Australia 14-12 to claim the bronze.
Japan is currently in the lead with seven gold medals. Australia is coming third, with six gold and a total of 10 medals.
