New wine tasting shed in Central Otago

Exploring New Zealand’s Central Otago wine region has just got a whole lot more appealing. A new tasting cellar offers travellers a relaxed venue to enjoy the region’s world-famous wines as you journey weathered ancient mountains, alpine herb fields, and fast flowing rivers.

The Marlborough-based winery, Cloudy Bay, has recently opened the doors to their new cellar – The Cloudy Bay Shed – this time in Central Otago. Located at their vineyard in Northburn, The Shed is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, expanding to seven days a week from the summer months onwards.

The tasting room will offer the full range of the estates’ wines to taste and to enjoy by the glass, with light snacks available alongside. There will also be the opportunity to book a private tasting, or a range of custom-made experiences, including vineyard tours by land and by air.

Yang Shen, Estate Director, says of the opening, “This is the culmination of the hard work and vision of our team. We are so happy to have found a home in Central Otago and look forward to sharing our wine and lifestyle with visitors to The Shed”.

Cloudy Bay has been making wine from Central Otago since 2010, purchasing the Northburn vineyard in 2012 and leasing part of the Calvert vineyard on Felton Road in Bannockburn. Their acclaimed Pinot Noir “Te Wahi” combines the qualities of the two distinctive vineyard sites, and is distributed worldwide through Moet Hennessy.

Sauvignon Blanc is the Estate’s flagship grape variety, but it also produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pelorus sparkling wine.
