A new open-air lawn bar is popping up for summer at one of Auckland’s sought-after tennis clubs, but you don’t have to be a member to visit.
Parnell Lawn Tennis Club is tucked into the side of Auckland’s domain, near the museum and is one of the country’s oldest dedicated to the sport.
Now, thanks to a new summer bar popping up on its premises each weekend over summer, the club is refreshing the vibe, creating an easy spot to stop in for a drink in the sunshine while enjoying the sporty atmosphere.
It’s fair to say tennis is one of the sports everyone is talking about right now. Besides the golf course, the court is the place to be this summer.
The new bar, to be known as Club Silver, is created in collaboration with Heineken and aims to fill the gap between your midday match and sundowners after dinner.
Guests can expect striped parasols, polished greens, secret DJ sets, rotating food trucks and other events setting the tone for a hot spot that takes its cues from the sought-after country club and tennis club scene internationally. Organisers say they want the space to retain a relaxed atmosphere where you can you can drop in, stay for one or make an afternoon of it.
Parnell Lawn Tennis Club was founded in 1872, just eight years after Heineken was first brewed in Amsterdam, so the classic-meets-cool synergy feels right for a new approach in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Club Silver opens Friday 5 December, welcoming guests every Friday and Saturday from 2 – 8pm through late January. The schedule boasts a variety of ticketed events and open to the public days, so check out the schedule for what’s on at clubheineken.co.nz.
