New foundations offer a range of desirable finishes from matte to glowy

There are times when a wealth of options incites decision fatigue, but when it comes to foundations, we welcome the ever-extending variety.

That’s because all of us have different skin types and lifestyles and sometimes even the extent of effort we wish to go to with our makeup routine varies.

There’s also the way trends change and with the impact the pandemic has had on our time spent at home, many of us have switched to less intensive application, preferring easy products that deliver a low-key, yet perfected finish.

The good news is, if you’re still all about a full-face, full coverage application, there are also products that suit.

Here’s a round up of the new and re-vamped options just landed.

Garnier BB Cream, $17.50

EASY – Long before the most recent boom in skincare-spiked makeup, Garnier’s BB cream was delivering a multitude of benefits beyond simple colour. Now the iconic face makeup has had a re-vamp, its lightweight and blendable formula now enriched with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and ultra-fine mineral pigments, resulting in natural looking coverage with a radiant finish. It comes in four options for different requirements – Classic, Oil Free, Anti-Age and Even Tone SPF50 – and the clever paper-integrated cardboard tube is made with 49% less plastic.

NARS Light Reflecting Foundation, $80

DEWY GLOW – NARS Sheer Glow has been the best selling foundation at Mecca for over a decade. That’s some serious cred for a makeup staple, but there’s a new contender from the New York City-based brand that’s just landed and we’re picking it’ll be a similar hit. NARS Light Reflecting Foundation is a fluid, medium coverage foundation with a fresh, glowy finish that is considered both makeup and skincare in one. According to the brand it’s made of 70 per cent skin-care ingredients, as opposed to simply pigments and ingredients that help blend the colour. This includes biomimetic oat for skin’s clarity, Japanese Lilyturf plant for moisture retention and cacao peptides so the skin benefits last longer than just the day’s wear. The lineup offers 36 shades and has a vegan formula that works for all skin types.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation, $46

LONGWEAR – Revlon knows long-wear makeup that endures the day’s challenges, its Colorstay collection a regular in our routines since the 90s. Now the famous Colorstay foundation has been revamped and divided into two new medium to full coverage formulas for different skin types. The Normal/Dry version is formulated with hyaluronic acid for lasting hydration while the Combination/Oily version protects and nourishes with Vitamin E and controls oil all day thanks to mineral powders.

Sisley Phyto-Blanc Le Cushion compact, $190

LUXURY – Sisley’s Phyto-Blanc Le Cushion compact combines the French skincare brand’s Phyto-Blanc brightening complex that tackles pigmentation and dark spots with a glowing, medium coverage base that is easily built up with the included sponge. The dewy, hydrating formula also protects against the effect of pollution and UV damage.

Dior Forever & Dior Forever Skin Glow, $112 each

FINISH OPTIONS – Dior’s two new Forever foundations offer longevity – said to remain in place for 24 hours should you want it to – as well as skincare-focussed ingredients to hydrate and refine texture and a diverse range of shades. But what we really love is that you can choose between Dior Forever,  for those that love a matte finish but still want it to look modern rather than powdery, or Dior Skin Glow, for those that crave a fresh, glowy finish.
