Starting back in the year 2000, the globally-recognised colour experts have annually chosen a shade that both captures the zeitgeist and shapes the year ahead.
A signpost for both colour and design choices for the coming 12 months, Pantone’s annual announcement of the Colour of The Year is always highly anticipated.
Influences can stem from fashion, interiors and design but also new technologies, materials, textures and even social media trends and the colour chosen can subsequently go on to influence these and other industries going forward.
For 2025, Pantone has selected a delicious-looking colour it calls ‘Mocha Mousse,’ referenced in its colour system as PANTONE 17-1230. Described as a ‘mellow brown infused with a sensorial and comforting warmth,’ it instantly recalls tones of cacao, milk chocolate and coffee.
This is intended says the authority, as people are increasingly looking for familiarity, connection, calmness and comfort. Just as we picked brown as our fashion colour of summer, Pantone says this will carry through all next year, as it has an elegant, luxurious quality.
“Underpinned by our desire for every day pleasures, Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute.

“Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Mocha Mousse, extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.
“Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. A flavorful brown shade, Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”
The selection has reaffirmed that brown has gone from earthy, to elevated.
