It takes a sharp eye to be able to mix and match different patterns to create something that’s visually eclectic yet feels cohesive at the same time.
Acclaimed Australian interior designer Anna Spiro is one such person, having carved out a niche as a designer with a devotion to playfully presented pattern.
Her work has seen her recognised in the international design world, most notably leading the interior design of boutique New South Wales hotel Halcyon House, where an intriguing amalgamation of textiles, wallpapers and art pieces come together with eye-catching sophistication.
Spiro’s lifelong passion for patterns led to her founding Anna Spiro Textiles, which she runs with her brother Sam Spiro.
Her collections – available exclusively from Warwick Fabrics – are made entirely in Australia, delicately crafted on Belgian linen, screen-printed by hand or digitally, and designed to be mixed and matched in the spirit of Spiro’s signature style.
The Islet collection, a collaboration with sister-in-law Pip Spiro, features seven dreamy patterns in different colourways, evoking the feeling of a seaside holiday.
The Heirloom collection is a thoughtfully designed curation of textiles that were rediscovered in her grandmother’s cupboard, reimagined in soft palettes on natural linens. The beauty of Spiro’s pieces is that they can work as both statement pieces on their own, or in joyful juxtaposition across curtains, cushions, armchairs and more.
