The MiNDFOOD Visa Wellington On a Plate Dine Menu of the festival has been decided and it is with great pleasure that we announce Zibibbo as the well-deserved winners.
The judges, Karen Martini, and MiNDFOOD Food Director Michelle McHugh, narrowed the selection down to three incredible restaurants and from that, decided Zibibbo was the clear favourite.
“The calibre was outstanding which made the judging difficult as there was much discussion over each course. Ultimately the winner stood out with their creative execution and mix of local produce and levels of flavour and taste combination” said Michelle.
The restaurant, run by Michelin-star Chef Adam Newell, served up gorgeous Mediterranean inspired cuisine showcasing the best of fresh local ingredients.
Co-owner Nicola Newell spoke about the importance of creating a menu that exhibited the best of local produce and celebrated in-season offerings.
“We wanted to showcase the best local produce using classic Zibibbo-style dishes – simple but with good flavour combinations that work well together. We also wanted to use the things that make Zibibbo different, so we’re roasting the Wairarapa lamb shoulder in our over-sized rotisserie and leaving the Horowhenua pigs’ cheeks in the wood-oven to slowly roast overnight”
So what does it feel like to win?
“Mindblowing! We’re thrilled the judges enjoyed our food and we’re looking forward to producing the menu for others to enjoy during WOAP, which is such a fantastic food festival” said Nicole.
The winning menu will be available at Zibibbo until the end of the Wellington On a Plate festival. See the menu here.
