The ‘Poetry of Time’ exhibition, at Melbourne’s Chadstone shopping centre, celebrates the Paris heritage brand’s famous expertise in watchmaking.
The fine jewellery and accessories house is well-known for bringing together elements of whimsy and enchantment – think flora, fauna and celestial details – and its timepieces are no exception.
Far from being just a simple technical tool to tell the hours and minutes in a day, instead, in each piece, time is expressed through poetic movements of nature, feminine figures and love stories which come to life beneath the glass. Precious stones adorn the mini works of art, many of which feature hand-painted details and 3D inlays.
This ‘poetry’ is at the heart of the free, short-term display, held in a pop-up space within Chadstone mall between July 17th to 30th.
Featuring up to 40 of Van Cleef & Arpels detailed watches, the public are invited to explore the history and savoir-faire of the special pieces and get caught up in the delightful world that surrounds each and every piece of the storied brand.
Contemporary timepieces with some of the house’s most famous emblems will be on show within a display that honours the mix of detail and delight in each creation. Visitors will be immersed in three universes that link the designs: Love Stories, Enchanting Nature and Poetic Astronomy.

Visitors to the Poetry of Time pop-up are invited to choose to deliver a heartfelt letter to their loved ones, with the option to either take home, or post on-site a bespoke Van Cleef & Arpels’ postcard. The postcard is available in an array of Parisian cityscape imagery as captured through a romantic lense.
