A personal letter written by the Duchess of Sussex – formally Meghan Markle – to her father in the wake of her royal wedding to Prince Harry last May been released, begging her “daddy” to leave her in peace.

Duchess Meghan penned an emotional letter to her estranged “Daddy” after he failed to attend her wedding telling him he had broken her heart.

The existence of the message emerged last week after five close friends of the Duchess gave anonymous interviews to a US magazine bashing Thomas Markle The Sun reports.

“Daddy, it is with a heavy heart that I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you are causing,” Duchess Meghan begins the five-page handwritten letter dated August 2018, which Thomas Markle, shared with The Mail on Sunday. “Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces – not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by making the choice to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand.”

The Duchess also admonishes her father, in anguished tones, for siding with her half-sister Samantha – who has attacked her in the press – while she ‘silently suffered at the hand of her vicious lies’.

The Duchess claims her father causes her pain by being manipulated in the media but he insists ‘I love her with all my heart’.

“If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop. Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband,” Duchess Meghan continued. “I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there’s no way out, but if you take a moment to pause I think you’ll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.”

She also accused her father of being ungrateful for money she gave him and for not accepting her offer of help during his health scare last year.

Duchess Meghan wrote that she learned of her father’s heart attack “through a tabloid” — a revelation which she calls “horrifying”.

“I begged you to accept help — we sent someone to your home…and instead of speaking to me to accept this or any help, you stopped answering your phone and chose to only speak to tabloids,” she wrote.

Thomas Markle confirmed to The Mail on Sunday that he sent a lengthy response to his daughter, which included a request for a photo op with Meghan and Harry to “show harmony.”

“You can hate me if you want. I can’t force you. I made a big mistake. I’m human and I’m sorry! How much longer must I say it?” he wrote. “I wish we could get together and take a photo for the whole world to see. If you and Harry don’t like it? Fake it for one photo.”
