Meghan Markle attended Wimbledon as a member of the royal family for the first time this weekend, to support her close friend Serena Williams.

The new mum, Williams, was however unsuccessful in the women’s final against Angelique Kerber, but gave the most inspiring, tear-inducing, concession speech. The emotionally-charged runner-up’s interview wasn’t lost on friend Markle either.

While Williams was being interviewed, the camera cut to Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton standing in the royal box, and the Duchess of Sussex could be seen blinking away the tears in her eyes.

Williams said that she was really happy to get as far as the final, and that she was motivated by all the other mums out there For all the moms out there.

Of coming second, Williams said, “I was really happy to get this far.” And while the tennis superstar conceded that it “was obviously disappointing” to lose, she revealed that she “can’t be disappointed.” She continued: “I have so much to look forward to. You know I’m literally just getting started so you know I’m looking forward to it.”

And as for her future plans, Williams assured the crowd that she wouldn’t be quitting anytime soon. She declared, “To all the moms out there, I was playing out there for you today and I tried. I look forward to continuing to be back out here and do what I do best.”
