The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle has again made history, this time for being the first Royal to be nominated as a Choice Style Icon at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards.
Markle, 36, is up against some pretty stylish competition: Blake Lively, Harry Styles, Migos, Chadwick Boseman, and Zendaya, who won this category in 2014. Previous year’s Style Icon recipients also include Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus.
Meghan Markle’s style has evolved from her Suits stardom to her new chapter as a royal. On the way making global headlines in numbers by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy and Stella McCartney, to name but a few of the latest. In 2016 Markle commented on her own style, saying to Glamour magazine, “classic and simple is the name of the game”.
The 2018 Teen Choice Awards will be held at The Forum in Inglewood, California, in August. While it’s unlikely Los Angeles-born Duchess will make the trip back to America for the ceremony, it has been previously reported that she is enjoying life in the UK.
Markle has also been submitted to be considered for an Emmy Award for her performance as Rachel Zane in Suits. USA Network is hoping she’ll get a nod for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, though it’s unclear whether she’ll end up in the running considering the stiff competition. (Last year’s nominees included Thandie Newton for Westworld and Samira Wiley in for The Handmaid’s Tale.) Emmy nominations get announced on July 12.
The Teen Choice Awards is set to air on Sunday, August 12.
