A redhead is fronting Karen Walker Eyewear’s latest campaign but did we mention she was a dog?
Not your average pooch of course. Meet Toast, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who has more than 149,000 Instagram followers, beloved for her trademark floppy tongue and personality. In 2010 she was rescued from a puppy mill (commercial dog breeding farm) by her now owners Katie Sturino and Josh Onassis. Due to neglect at the puppy mill Toast’s teeth were toast (rotten) and had to be removed – hence the floppy tongue.
Now Toast is a poster girl raising awareness about the realities of puppy mills. She has also partnered with Friends of Finn charity which is dedicated to stopping the inhumane treatment of dogs in puppy mills.
The latest just-launched Karen Walker Eyewear campaign Toast Meets Karen is not the first time Toast has donned a pair of Karen Walker frames. Nor is it Toast’s first foray into fashion. Last June her photograph appeared in Britain’s Daily Mail wearing a gold pair of Walker eyewear and a Prabal Gurung jumper. She’s starred in Lucky magazine fashion video and fashion designer Alexander Wang is also a fan.
Walker says “We were after a model who could fit our caramel-ly colour palette and also someone whose hair would work with our three wind machines hitting her from every angle to create a slightly ’70s vibe. Toast ticked every one of those boxes.”
