MECCA’s First NZ Concept Store is Opening This Week

Wellingtonian beauty buffs are in for a treat: MECCA’s very first New Zealand concept store is set to open its doors this Friday.

Melding together the best of both worlds – MECCA Cosmetica and Maxima – the 435 square-metre space on Lambton Quay will be home to the world’s most luxurious and talked-about beauty brands, as well as all those must-have brands that we already know and love.

“We are so delighted to unveil New Zealand’s first MECCA concept in the capital city,” says MECCA founder Jo Horgan. “We wanted to offer MECCA’s entire brand line up in the one location, in an environment that was both glamorous and service-centric but also with new innovations to make it a truly unique shopping experience.”

The luxurious space will also be home to dedicated MECCA Perfumeria and Trove areas, where customers can browse a selection of the most sought-after brands. The Perfumeria will be home to fragrances from the likes of Byredo, Diptyque, Frederic Malle and 100 Bon, whilst a carefully curated collection of beauty treasures sourced from around the globe under MECCA’s Trove concept will include brow grooming specialists Le Sourcil, IIUVO candles and natural skincare brand French Girl.

The makeup offering will include MECCA-exclusive brands such as NARS, Hourglass, Chantecaille and Stila alongside Maxima favourites Urban Decay, Too Faced and MECCA MAX. Skincare lovers will be able to explore a dedicated skin area, offering a compelling line-up of brands including Sunday Riley, Drunk Elephant, Tatcha and Kate Somerville, as well as Mecca Maxima favourites Frank Body and Mario Badescu.

MECCA will open 10 August at 260 Lambton Quay, Wellington.

Put to the Test: Sothys Sensations Orientale

Our beauty editor puts the indulgent Sothys Sensations Orientales body treatment to the test at Tonic Spa in Titirangi.

The Treatment

The luxurious Sothys Sensations Orientales treatment ($130 for 60 minutes at Tonic Spa, Titirangi) is inspired by ancient oriental tradition. The hour-long treatment features an exfoliating syrup to gently exfoliate the skin before a one-of-a-kind handmade scrubbing claystone is used to energise the skin. Hot towels are then used to remove the exfoliating syrup before warm nourishing amber and date oil is massaged into the body.

The Verdict

If you’re anything like I am, you tend to forget about pampering your limbs during winter. And while lengthy, hot showers seem like a good idea at the time, hot water can dry out skin. Throw in other elements of winter – low air humidity and air-conditioning blasting around the clock – and by the time spring rolls around, skin tends to be in need of some serious nourishing from head to toe.

The indulgent Sothys Sensations Orientales is the perfect mid-winter pick-me-up and is just what my body needed to help get it ready for spring which is just around the corner. A gentle yet thorough exfoliation starts the treatment – dull, dry skin is sloughed away leaving my body silky smooth. Warm amber and date massage oil makes for a truly relaxing yet invigorating massage – in fact, it’s just what achy winter muscles need.
