Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Margot Robbie revealed the hilarious way she met both Ellen DeGeneres and Barack Obama for the first time.
“It’s my favourite story ever,” the 27-year-old Australian actress confessed. The I, Tonya star explains how she and husband Tom Ackerley decided to go to workout while honeymooning in Tahiti last year. “We get changed to go to the gym and Tom puts on these shorts that are like, his oldest gym shorts, and they’re tiny,” Robbie told Ellen.”I was like, ‘Babe, you cannot wear those shorts … I can see everything.’ And he was like, ‘Oh, c’mon. Who are we going go to run into?'”
When the couple arrived at the gym, however, they immediately bumped into DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi. After exchanging greetings, DeGeneres asked Robbie: “have you met Obama?” and gestured to the former US president, who was standing beside them.
Robbie quickly points out the small size of the gym. “It was even smaller than this stage, it was a very confined space” she laughs. The group of five then completed a workout class together, which Robbie says was extremely difficult for her husband. “Tom’s trying to lunge cross-legged and Obama’s stepping over his legs to put his weights back…the whole thing was so absurd.”
DeGeneres confirms just how short Ackerley’s shorts really were. “When she says short-shorts, I’m not exaggerating, they were from here and wide,” she says, pointing to her upper thighs. Robbie adds that at the end of the class DeGeneres leaned over and said: “Boy, those were the wrong shorts to wear today.”
However there was some good to come out of the meeting, Robbie says. Obama, who was at the resort working on his book, told the actress he was a big fan. “He goes ‘you’re a very talented actress, we were just talking about you the other night,” she exclaims.
