The Māori monarch is visiting London this week and shared time with Prince William to discuss global challenges and potential solutions. The meeting sees the Queen follow in the footsteps of her tūpuna by continuing eight generations of engagement with the British royal household.
In a statement after their meeting, The Kīngitanga , Te Arikinui discussed a range of global topics with Prince William. This included sharing her belief in the power of indigenous knowledge and intergenerational stewardship to help address the world’s environmental and social challenges.

Prince William, shared a photo of the two together on social media, saying it was ‘a pleasure to meet with Māori Queen Te Arikinui Kuini Nga wai hono i te po today at Windsor Castle’.
During the visit, Te Arikinui also attended a celebration of rangatahi who have improved their lives with support from The King’s Trust Aotearoa New Zealand, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
Te Arikinui became the eighth Māori Monarch in 2024, following the death of her father, Kiingi Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII.
