Man tests positive for COVID in Victoria

A man in his 30s has tested positive to the virus after returning from overseas and completing hotel quarantine in South Australia.

He returned to his home in Wollert, Victoria on 4 May before developing COVID symptoms four days later.

His positive result came through on Tuesday after he was tested on Monday.

SA’s chief health officer Nicola Spurrier has said it’s possible the man caught the virus in hotel quarantine, as the man was in a room adjacent to a COVID-positive traveller.

That man was transferred to another hotel after testing positive, but Spurrier said it’s possible that after the transfer “there was some form of transmission of the virus”.

“We have been sure to check that the ventilation has been excellent in passageways and peoples’ rooms. At this point in time, it is a hypothesis,” she said.

She told media that another theory behind how the man contracted the virus is that he could have been exposed to it prior to entering the state and experienced a “very, very long incubation period”.
