Magical ‘promposal’ for special needs student warms our hearts
A US special needs student's dream has come true after her crush surprised her with a magical 'promposal'.

An unsuspecting high school student at a Texas school has lived the stuff of teenage dreams after the entire school was involved in an elaborate ‘promposal’ where her school crush asked her to go to the prom with him.

Luis Velasquez is the name of this young prince charming who concocted the event, but the whole school was in on the surprise.

Tiffany Gay, is a special needs student who suffers from Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare genetic disorder of the 15th chromosome, scoliosis of the spine and diabetes.

Having had a crush on for many years, she was completely unaware of the ruse which took place during what she thought was a routine fire drill.

However, upon exiting the school along with her peers she heard her favourite song, ‘Just the Way You Are’ by Bruno Mars, playing over the loudspeaker. As she looked around she saw a path created by students that led to Velasquez who was waiting for Gay with a bunch of pink roses – her favourite colour.

A student in the crowd captured the whole thing on video via their phone and in the short film Gay is seen noticeably moved by the whole experience so much so that her prince charming comes over to hold her hand, walk her through the cheering crowd toward huge signs that spelt out, “Prom?” with a another sign that read, “Yes,” for her to indicate her answer.

The moving video has since gone viral with almost 6 million views of the special moment since it was posted last week.

According to Velasquez mother, the young man has always had a special place in his heart for Gay, so when it came to prom, asking her was a ‘no-brainer’.

“He met Tiffany back in the seventh grade,” Velasquez’s mom, Jessica, told reporters.

“Since then, Tiffany has had the biggest crush on my son. And since the beginning of this school year, Luis said he’s taking Tiffany to prom.”

The teenager is highly regarded around Natalia High school. “He is one of the most giving students I’ve ever met,” said the school’s attendance clerk. “We don’t have a problem with bullying but let me tell you what; we all appreciate Luis because he doesn’t stand for anyone to be bullied.”

People were so moved by the touching surprise that they have been reaching out and making comments on the video wanting to help donate funds to ensure the happy high schooler’s upcoming prom on May 23 is the most amazing experience ever for her.

“It’s all for Tiffany,” Jessica said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in honor of the prom occasion and any funds that aren’t put toward prom will be given to Gay’s family to help with her upcoming surgery and medical bills.
