Madame Butterfly – An Opera by Puccini
Come and be captivated this February with a night of Madame Butterfly.

Festival Opera presents this beloved but tragic opera, reimagined and directed by industry heavyweight Jennifer Ward-Lealand, with production design by John Verryt, previous designer for the acclaimed World of Wearable Art (WOW). Madame Butterfly tells the story of a discarded wife, left in a war-torn city after a brief marriage to Pinkerton, an officer in the armed forces, stationed there during the conflict. She waits in vain for his return, clinging on to the image she had created for herself as his wife, only to be disappointed and betrayed, and faced with a heartbreaking decision.

Featuring a stellar cast, including Pene Pati (of Sol3 Mio fame), Toni Marie Palmertree (United States), Rebecca Afonwy-Jones (Wales) and Gary Griffiths (Wales) who returns for his third season with Festival Opera.

When: Premieres on Tuesday 13th with successive performances on 15th, 17th and 19th of February
Where: Napier Municipal Theatre, Napier, New Zealand
