Love French fries? This perfume is for you

Perfumes have come a long way from their humble beginnings, made of concoction of crushed rose petals or herbs and oil.

Still, the announcement of a new perfume made to invoke the smell of fresh cooked fries was an unexpected development.

A new perfume from the Idaho Potato Commission — yes, you read that right — has been created to celebrate the scent of the greasy, salty treat.

Frites by Idaho is a limited-edition fragrance available only on the IPC’s website.

According to a statement from the IPC announcing the scent, a recent national survey conducted by Pollfish, revealed that nearly 90% of Americans find the smell of French fries irresistible.

“Whether you’re at a drive through restaurant or dining in, it’s near impossible to not grab a fry and take a bite before you dive into your meal. The smell is too good to resist,” says Jamey Higham, President and CEO, IPC.

“This perfume is a great gift for anyone who can’t refuse a French fry.”

Frites by Idaho is made from distilled Idaho potatoes and essential oils. The 1.7-ounce was said to be retailing for US$1.89, (about the price of a large order of fries according to the IPC), but is currently listed as sold out.

The Idaho Potato Commission is a state agency responsible for promoting and protecting the famous “Grown in Idaho” seal relating to the ground-grown vege,  and has a range of additional potato merchandise available for spud fans to shop including French fry holders for your car, clothing, pins, and toys.
