Louis Vuitton Names Virgil Abloh as New Menswear Designer

Louis Vuitton has named Virgil Abloh, Kanye West creative director and Off-White founder, as the new artistic director of menswear.

“Having followed with great interest Virgil’s ascent since he worked with me at Fendi in 2006, I am thrilled to see how his innate creativity and disruptive approach have made him so relevant, not just in the world of fashion but in popular culture today. His sensibility towards luxury and savoir-faire will be instrumental in taking Louis Vuitton’s menswear into the future” said Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton’s Chairman & CEO.

“It is an honour for me to accept the position of Men’s Artistic Director for Louis Vuitton. I find the heritage and creative integrity of the House are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times.” stated Virgil Abloh.

Abloh is the first African-American artistic director for Louis Vuitton.

Furla to Open in Auckland

Luxury Italian accessories brand Furla – which recently declared its move to go fur-free from November – will touch down in Auckland next year.

Commercial Bay, the anticipated waterfront lifestyle precinct which is currently under construction, has announced its first lot of fashion tenants. When the precinct opens its doors in 2019 Furla will be joined by a handful of firsts, including Herschel Supply Co., and favourites including Swedish fashion giant, H&M, and locals Superette and Rodd & Gunn.

“Commercial Bay will deliver a mix of fashion, food and beauty, including more European first-to-market brands like those we have announced today, as well as a mix of the best of New Zealand boutiques,”  says Precinct Properties’ lead fashion partnership manager, Michael Sweetman.
