Louis Vuitton dives into the makeup world, with an extensive new collection on the way.

The beauty world is an appealing offshoot for the world’s luxury fashion giants.

In recent years it has been common news for the most recognisable labels to extend their offering to the cosmetics aisles, but there has been one name that has held off, until now.

Louis Vuitton has of course spent considerable time developing its high-end fragrances, but makeup hasn’t been on the radar.

But the news has broken the luxury French fashion house will be changing that, with an extensive new makeup line called La Beauté Louis Vuitton, to launch in the northern hemisphere’s autumn.

According to WWD, the new collection will include an incredible 55 lipsticks, 10 lip balms and eight eye palettes on arrival.

Naturally, Vuitton has shoulder-tapped the best in the business to oversee the new collection, appointing Dame Pat McGrath as its new cosmetics creative director.

McGrath is a globally-respected British makeup artist, regularly found backstage at international fashion weeks, and known for her innovative and influential work. She also founded her own popular high-end makeup line, Pat McGrath Labs in 2015, which is available online and through Sephora.

As with Louis Vuitton’s perfumes, the new makeup offering is said to only be available through the brand’s own stores around the world, and will only launch in select doors to begin with.

“Every category that we enter, we try to do it in the best way,” Louis Vuitton chairman and chief executive officer Pietro Beccari told WWD, revealing four years of research and development went into the initial lip and eye colors.

“We took the time to develop incredible ranges, and new formulas,” Beccari says. “We like to come with something never seen before in terms of performance, in terms of long-lastingness, and in terms of colors.”
