Trooping the Colour is a ceremonial parade held annually in London to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday, featuring divisions of the military in full dress uniform.
Royal watchers were delighted to see Princess Kate step out for this year’s event in a chic turquoise Catherine Walker coat dress which featured white collar detailing, and a matching wide-brim hat.

As Kate joined The King and Queen to watch the parade, in which husband Prince William and his aunt, Princess Anne and uncle Prince Edward were taking part, it was clear her outfit was a touching nod to William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
The outfit was strikingly similar to the one Diana wore for Trooping the Colour back in 1988. Diana’s outfit at the time featured a fitted coatdress with white trim in a teal-green hue, and a wide-brim hat.

What’s more, both mothers dressed for the occasion by matching with their children. Back in 1988, Prince Harry was dressed in matching green tones with his mother, whilst this year Princess Charlotte coordinated with Kate by wearing a summery turquoise dress.
At the beginning of the event, a beaming Kate joined her children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10 and Prince Louis, 7, in carriage to process from Buckingham Palace down the Mall to Horse Guards Parade, while her husband Prince William rode out in his role as Colonel of the Welsh Guards.

Kate joined the King and Queen to watch the proceedings and later the family gathered together on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as is tradtion, to view a fly-past by the Royal Air Force.
The children smiled politely, pointing out the aircraft as they appeared to the delight of onlookers, before being ushered back inside by their mother.
Kate’s outfit was just one of many nods the Princess of Wales has continued to make to her mother-in-law, this time choosing a dress that was memorably similar, even coming from Catherine Walker, one of Diana’s favourite designers.
